The Philippines is traditionally an agricultural country. No wonder lots of Filipino painters have depicted many agriculture-inspired themes and scenes in their works.
The harvest season is, without doubt, the favorite among painters and the most popular among art patrons. Deeply superstitious and at the same time devout in their religious beliefs, many Filipinos adorned their homes with paintings or photographs of harvests as a means to attract good fortune on one hand and as an expression of gratitude to God on the other.
Boy Go must have painted various interpretations of the harvest season in the 35 years that he has been painting. This abstract rendition which he simply dubbed “Ani” (i.e. harvest) is one of his — and his clients’ — favorite.
